The concept of a hand poured candle in today’s society is somehow considered to be rare, elite, and a homage to craftsmanship and tradition.

Once the candles are expertly packaged and placed in various boutiques and consumed, the last thing on anyone’s mind is that these very candles can be associated with wasteful and hazardous products. Paraffin wax is a bi-product of the process of refining oil. We’ve all seen black smoke emitting from a candle when the flame grows too high, but have never realized that it is the very same as the black soot rising from car engines. Breathing in the toxins from the average candle is as toxic as outdoor pollution or second hand smoke!

And while the Green Movement is in full swing these days, most do not associate this movement with elegance and style. M. Carlesimo candles are hand poured utilizing 100% soy wax. Many companies offering soy alternatives to the standard paraffin, are still using a blend. In addition to being all natural, soy beans are harvested in the US as opposed to paraffin wax that is derived from foreign oil. The natural consistency of soy allows it to release stronger aromas when the candles are scented that lasts for longer periods of time. Many candle companies utilize wicks containing lead and zinc because of the relative ease of mass manufacturing. M. Carlesimo candles do not use lead or zinc wicks that when burned emit toxins with carcinogens, but instead use a 100% cotton wick.
